"Alasse
Elensar" means "Singing Kitten." The name fits her
perfectly, because even though she is our smallest Norwegian Forest Cat, she is the
loudest and most vocal. She chirps and trills, loudly, in a sing
song voice, and nary a meow escapes her lips. (Update:
Alasse is no longer our smallest cat, she has filled out and grown so
much, she is bigger than Nadiya now! She is still our loudest cat,
however. She has developed a sort of "scream" at mealtimes.)
She's hilarious.
It is easy to describe Alasse using one
word...elegant.
Things did not go smoothly for me
when I first started out on my Norwegian Forest Cat Journey. But after a few
disappointments, and setbacks, everything just started falling into
place perfectly. I was thrilled with my foundation cats, and
really enjoying them. In the back of my mind, though, I knew at
some distant point, maybe several years down the road, I wanted to have a
Pure White Norwegian Forest Cat.
I figured I'd probably have to import her from Europe, but was willing
to do whatever it took to realize this dream.
Isn't it amazing, to borrow a
thought from C.S. Lewis, how when things are going bad, they just seem
to go from bad to worse. But when they start going good, how they
just keep getting better and better.
That's how I feel about the day I found Alasse, my
"Singing Kitten."
I stumbled on to an ad for her one day, and even though it was late at
night, and rather rude of me, I called the phone number of Bestemor's
Cattery, and met the most wonderful people, Ruth and Solon. They
just happened to have her still available, and I told them "sign me
up!!" A few weeks later, she was mine.
She fit right in seamlessly with the other cats. I tried to
introduce her gradually,
but she would have none of it!
I am daily thrilled with her, and watching her grow and
develop is a real joy. I believe she is going to be an exquisite
beauty. Her coat is beautiful beyond description, and her tail is
perfection manifested. Her head forms a perfect triangle, with
large, well-placed ears. She is a feisty, spunky, ball of fire. She can hold
her own with any of the other cats.
She is my Computer Aide and Lap Cat,
and highly intelligent. When she first came home, she was
fascinated with the computer. She would bite at the keys on the
keyboard. After watching me type, she began hitting the keys with
her paws, and actually typing. Now she either sits and stares at
at the screen, enthralled, or lays on my lap curled in a little ball,
purring contentedly. I'm glad she is
so light, I hardly know she's there. Gandalf, on the other hand,
cuts the circulation off of my legs!
I have a board in my bathroom, which holds
an assortment of hair bands on pegs. Alasse thinks this is her own
personal toy store. In the early hours of the morning, she will
jump up on the counter, and like a child deciding which piece of candy
she would like, she picks out one of the "toys". Then she'll carry
it back to the bed, and toss it up, and catch it, over and over.
She'll bury it under the covers, only to discover it and pounce on it a
few seconds later. She'll wrestle with it and fight with it, and
carry it proudly in her mouth like a conquered mouse. All this on
top of my legs. This works far better than an alarm clock to wake
me up in the mornings! We have these bands now all over the house on the
furniture and floor. It used to get on my nerves, and I'd stoop
and pick them up and put them away. Now I hardly even notice them
anymore, lol.
I thank God for my
dream-come-true, beautiful Alasse Elensar, and I also thank Ruth and Solon, truly dedicated breeders of the Norwegian Forest Cat, of Bestemor Cattery, for the joy of having her in our home.
